Cooroy is the closest rail head to the coast and is 16 kilometres west of Tewantin on the Bruce Highway. Originally a timber and dairy town, Cooroy is now a growing rural residential area with hundreds of homesteads gracing its rolling countryside. The Cooroy Shopping Centre, sited mainly on the west side of the railway line, has a Hotel, Returned Services League Club, Post Office and a wide range of specialty shops.
Lake MacDonald, the Noosa Shire water storage, is about five kilometres from Cooroy and the site of the beautiful Noosa Botanical Gardens, an attraction for tourists and photographers. Council has recently purchased the Cooroy Butter Factory for renovation and use by the local community for arts and crafts. The Noosa District High School and Noosa District Hospital are based at Cooroy.
